The role of a postpartum doula is to support the whole family in the weeks to months following the birth or adoption of a child through education on newborn care and sleep, assistance with nursing or bottle feeding efforts and how to navigate changes in the household.

I work with many of my clients overnight but I am not a night nurse or baby nurse. These are erroneous terms that don’t reflect the qualifications of most newborn care providers, as the majority of us are not RNs.

Yes, if the baby is fed and content and the chores for the night have been completed, I sleep. I do not offer “awake care.”

No, in general I only work full shifts of 10-12 hours for nighttime shifts. If a family wants partial coverage outside of the 7-9pm start times and 6-9am end times, ride share transportation must be covered by the client.

A flat surface for sleep such as a couch or bed that is cleaned or laundered in between uses. Rainbow Village Doula is happy to strip the bed or couch of linens after use if the sleep space is to be used by another party before the next shift.

In some cases if 24-hour live in accommodations are provided, I will serve an area outside of Manhattan or Brooklyn.
